DESCRIPTION: This lecture and laboratory course will focus
primarily on the toxicological assessment of environmental chemicals in
mammals. It will explore the main principles and quantitative methods upon
which this type of evaluation is founded with emphasis on acute, sub-chronic
and chronic toxicity, genotoxicity, reproductive and developmental toxicity,
neurotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, dermal and ocular toxicity and immunotoxicity.

A.W. Hayes: Principles and Methods of Toxicology, Raven
Press, Third Edition, ISBN 0-7817 0131-7. This text (one copy) and two
copies of the second edition will be available on reserve in the SFU Library.
GRADING: The assessment will be based on marks obtained in laboratory write ups (65% of final grade) and a final 2 hour exam (35% of final grade). The exam questions will be based on materials presented in the lectures and topics covered in the laboratory.
